Fall 2023 • Meet Judy Walgren

Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Judy Walgren joins Foothill College as full-time faculty this fall.

Walgren brings experience to our students from her tenures at the Dallas Morning News, the Rocky Mountain News and the Denver Post as a photojournalist and photo editor. She also served as the Director of Photography at the San Francisco Chronicle, where she led a team of Emmy-winning photojournalists and filmmakers. In 2016, she received an MFA in Visual Art from the Vermont College of Fine Arts and began her exploration into the relationships between photography, historic archives and power structures. Judy began her teaching career at Foothill College, and later held teaching positions at De Anza College, City College of San Francisco, and San Francisco Art Institute. Judy joins the Foothill College Photography Department after serving as the Associate Director, Professor of Practice at Michigan State University School of Journalism.

An advisory board of industry leaders supports our department faculty with knowledge and expertise so that we continue to offer the appropriate marketable skills for students to successfully enter the workforce.
