The Changemaker Community is dedicated to providing a cohort of honors students with
a learning community in two discipline-based courses linked with a common theme. The
theme of each learning community provides a foundation for curricular connections
between disciplines, and out-of-classroom experiences which enhance the academic experience.
The faculty team collaborates to create an integrative, supportive, and challenging
learning environment designed to support student learning, research, and community
Fall 2021 Communities
Exploring Our Personal Agency: Remaking America's Power Structure
By examining the values and belief systems surrounding education in the United States, students will learn to analyze their own educational experiences in order to more deeply investigate their own academic goals. Students will also analyze migration stories and conduct personal, familial research in order to understand how our personal experiences/contexts intersect with larger, structural aspects of society. Finally, students will produce a portfolio that demonstrates their growing understanding of themselves, their educational philosophies, and their connections to their communities.
The linked courses for this community are ENGL 1AH and CNSL 3H. You may register for the courses through https://myportal.fhda.edu and must be taken together to enroll. Both courses are offered as a hybrid, with some hours online asynchronous, some hours online in zoom, and some hours in-person on campus. If you need additional information, please contact Dr. Voltaire Villanueva at firstname.lastname@example.org.
