PRACTICUM STUDENT TEACHING IN AN EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAM

- Description: A demonstration of developmentally appropriate early childhood teaching competencies under guided supervision. Students utilize practical classroom experiences to make connections between theory and practice, develop professional behaviors, and build a comprehensive understanding of children and families. Child centered, play-oriented approaches to teaching, learning, and assessment, and knowledge of curriculum content areas are emphasized as student teachers design, implement, and evaluate experiences that promote positive development and learning for all young children.

Emergency Medical Services (EMT/EMR/Paramedic)
EMERGENCY MEDICAL RESPONSE

- Description: Provides the student with the knowledge and skills necessary to work as an emergency medical responder (EMR) to help sustain life, reduce pain and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until more advanced medical help takes over. The course meets or exceeds the 2009 Emergency Medical Services Educational Standards for Emergency Medical Response and meets Guidelines 2020 for First Aid and 2020 Consensus on Science for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN: BASIC PART B
6 Units
- Description: Second of two courses required to be eligible to take the California State written and practical exam for certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-1 (EMT-1). Intended to instruct a student to the level of Emergency Medical Technician-Basic who serves as a vital link in the chain of the health care team. Students will participate in hands-on application of skills necessary to work as a competent EMT. Students will also perform patient assessment scenarios focused on medical and trauma complaints and treatments of various diseases and injuries, to build competence and prepare them to sit for the state certification exam. Includes all knowledge and skills necessary for the individual to provide emergency medical care at a basic life support level with a fire department or other specialized service.
- Prerequisite: EMS 52.
- Advisory: EMS 53 is part two of two courses required to be eligible to take the California State written and practical exam for certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-1; EMS 52 and 53 may not be taken concurrently; not open to students with credit in EMT 51 or 305.

- Description: This course is designed for any student, in any major, who is interested in exploring the connections between math concepts and the quantitative skills we use in everyday life. The course focuses on problem solving using mathematical methods and modeling and quantitative investigation strategies. Applications include linear and exponential models, multivariable relationships, conversions, estimation, elementary probability, and descriptive statistics. Students will learn individually and collaboratively to analyze quantitative information and apply quantitative skills in a variety of real life contexts and express their findings verbally and in writing.
- Prerequisite: Intermediate Algebra or equivalent.
- Corequisite: For students who do not meet the prerequisite requirement, concurrent enrollment in MATH 240A is required.
