PARKING: Parking in student lots 1 or 6 is included in the ticket price: no permit required for only those lots on show nights. Lot 6 provides campus access without stairs.
SYNOPSIS: Friends since college, the enterprising partnership of Karen Wright and Martha Dobie have been running a small, private boarding school for girls in provincial New England for some years. In 1934, after eight years of operation, the hard work of Karen and Martha had paid-off as the school reached a point of self-sufficiency. One student, Mary Tilford, a habitual behavioral problem, is facing yet another disciplinary incident. Mary, angered by the way she has been treated, fabricates a complicated lie and tells her influential grandmother, Amelia Tilford, in order to escape her punishment. Believing she is righteously justified by her granddaughter’s private testimony, Mrs. Tilford spreads the rumor to the other parents, who then immediately remove their children from the school. The fallout of this incident has palpable effects on the lives of many and is a strong legacy to the power of a child’s simple lie.
