GE Fridays FAQs

Q. Why are the classes so short?

GE Friday classes are hybrid classes. Unlike other hybrids, these hybrid classes use the flip model. Majority of your time is online, interacting with other students, learning from classroom materials, videos, discussions. Once a week on Fridays you meet for 80 minutes (except for History where you meet for 110 minutes) with your classmates and teacher for teacher-guided practice, or projects and any activity your teacher has planned for that day. The classes will meet every Friday for 12 weeks.

Q. Are the in person meetings mandatory?

Yes they are- just like any hybrid class you've taken. It's just shorter.

Q. Why are we doing this?

We heard from you — yes, you, the student. It's tough to be on campus every day of the week. It's tough to go it alone online with a virtual class. So we changed the teaching model for you!

Q. Is there tutoring help?

Yes. Tutors from STEM center and TLC will be available for support all GE Fridays. You can also access NetTutor, our online tutoring service, 24/7.

Q. Should I take all my GEs on Friday?

Like any academic decision you make, you should think about your personal workload, academic workload, financial needs. Please speak with a counselor so you can make a decision that best fits your needs.

Q. Will you be offering this again in the Spring?

Yes! We plan on it!

Q. Sunnyvale's kinda far from main campus, isn't it?

That's why we put GE Fridays on Fridays and planned a whole day around it so you don't have to schlep from main campus to Sunnyvale.

Q. Where is Foothill College Sunnyvale Center?

Foothill Sunnyvale Center is located at 1070 Innovation Way, Sunnyvale . The best way to describe it is where Highway 237 and 101 meet.

Q. I am a high school student. Can I take these classes?

Yes! Please contact our Placement Testing office to ensure your placement in math and english before signing up. You can take your placement tests both at Foothill main campus and Sunnyvale. They're the same!
