The world loves the moving image. Little more than 100 years old, motion pictures are among our most popular and dynamic art forms. Increasingly, video is where we turn for entertainment, information, and education.
Video is a young medium that continues to evolve within its own complex, eloquent language. Traditional storytelling models coexist with emerging interactive narrative forms.
Television sitcoms have made way for video podcasts. Today, the internet has created an international theater for the moving image where video can be downloaded and played on devices from the cell phone to high-definition television.
The Video Arts program is an ideal training ground for learning the technologies, concepts, and critical analysis skills necessary for fluency in the video arts. Students in our program create and analyze a variety of moving image forms including narrative, documentary, industrial, and experimental.
Foothill offers two separate Associate in Art degrees in the Video Arts; Media Studies and Video Production. The media studies degree focuses on analysis, culture, and history, while the production degree focuses on the technical aspects of video making.
Students completing the Associate in Art in Video Arts are prepared to begin professional careers in a variety of video fields or transfer to a four-year university.
