VART 4 Scriptwriting for Film & Video:
Scriptwriting for Film & Video is an introductory course in
scriptwriting which covers the basic skills needed in scripting for the media. These valuable skills can improve and enhance work in the areas of production, directing and editing as well as writing. Attention will be given to the development of visual sensitivity, the creation of clearly defined, dynamic characters and experience in progressing from concept to finished script. The role of the script in media production and the appropriate formats for fiction and non-fiction scripts will also be examined. This course provides an essential foundational entry point into the world of film and video and ideally should be taken in conjunction with VART 20, Video Production I or before VART 21, Video Production II.
VART 7 History of Animation:
History of Animation is a critical and historical international
survey of the development of the animated film from its pre-cinema
origins to its present status as a contemporary art form. Students
will explore the contributions of the major studios in this country,
including Max Fleischer, Disney, Warner Brothers and MGM and
encounter some wonderful creative work from major studios in other
countries, including the Zagreb Film Studio in Yugoslavia and the
National Film Board of Canada. In addition, students will gain a
better understanding of the potentials of animation as a creative art
form as they view a diverse body of work beginning with animation's
pioneers, explore the unique qualities of the medium and trace the
evolution of computer animation.
