Student Conduct Guidelines

Please observe the following Tutorial Center guidelines to assure a positive experience for everyone:

Two students at desk
  • Please be courteous to your fellow students—keep your voice low and your cell phone ringer OFF to maintain an environment free of disturbing distractions.

  • Please log in and out each time you use the Center. Our funding is related to the number of students who use the Center, and the number of hours they use it.

  • Our tutors will help you to the best of their ability, but academic success is primarily your responsibility.

  • Please do not ask tutors for their phone number, home address or email address. They are not allowed to give this information to their tutees while they are working, and can lose their job for doing so.

  • Before you ask a tutor for help, be sure that you have made a genuine attempt to solve the problem or answer the question yourself. This attempt ensures that the tutor will have an idea of how best to assist you in solving the problem.

  • Tutors are not allowed to complete work for others. They are here to guide and assist you while you do your own work. It is a violation of the Foothill College Academic Honesty Policy to ask tutors to do your homework for you or to check all your homework problems. Tutors will report such violations to your instructor. If you have questions beyond the scope of the assistance that we offer, please see your course professor.

  • It is a violation of the Foothill College Academic Honesty Policy to request a tutor to help you with projects and other special problems for which your instructor has specifically directed you to work alone or only with classmates. Tutors will report such violations to your instructor.

  • Accounting solution manuals are here to assist tutors when necessary. Do not copy information from these manuals. Tutees are not allowed to use the manuals without a tutor being present.

  • Failure to respect our student employees, staff or Center rules can result in loss of use of Tutorial Center services.
