Career & Transfer Center Mentor Link
Introduction
Mission Statement:
"Mentor Link" is designed as a mentoring program to assist Foothill College minority and underrepresented students with their transfer goals. If successful, it will impact how these students utilize the 2000-01 academic year to accomplish their transfer goals.
Goal Statement:
The goal of "Mentor Link" is to allow an opportunity for transferring students and faculty members to meet with one another to discuss challenges of transferring to a university. The experience, insight, and input of your peers and faculty members are most beneficial to Foothill transferring students, and most importantly, will help increase the transfer rate of underrepresented and minority students.
The two dimensional program: Foothill faculty mentors and peer student mentors will give Foothill students considerable advantage in their year to transfer.
Some of these advantages will include but will not be limited to:
- Interfacing informally both by telephone and by campus visits with students and staff at the university.
- Taking advantage of the experiences of peers who have successfully made an adjustment to the university
- Utilizing the expertise of Foothill Faculty and Staff as they face challenges that will occur during the year.
- Faculty-Student interaction (to link academic and to build a sense of community)
- Peer- students- Foothill students (to personalize the university, its programs and services)
These outcomes and others are expected during the 2000-01 academic year. Members of Foothill faculty and staff have made faculty mentoring a successful experience for those students who utilize this program, in the past. University student mentors will complete our attempt to link our students to their school of choice.
