Articulation Agreements
What is articulation?
Articulation is a process between two educational institutions or between one college and an educational system (such as UC or CSU) wherein curriculum is reviewed in order to determine whether the courses are comparable to each other. This process is done to help transfer students make a smooth transition (typically from the community college to a university/college) without experiencing a delay or duplication of coursework. Courses at the sending college (Foothill) are identified as comparable to courses at the receiving university. This allows students to fulfill a university requirement by taking an identified comparable course (articulated course) at Foothill College. This articulation agreement may be presented as course-to-course, for lower division major preparation and/or for general education-breadth requirements. In some cases, courses are only articulated (identified) as elective courses. This means that though the units will transfer, the course does not fulfill any specific requirements other than as transferable units.
At Foothill College, we maintain articulation agreements with every University of California campus and virtually every California State University campus, as well as with numerous independent (private) and/or out-of-state institutions.
The most recent articulation agreements with CSU and UC campuses are available on ASSIST, the official repository for CSU, UC, and community college articulation information in California. Please consult a counselor for any questions regarding information obtained via ASSIST.
Foothill College also maintains articulation agreements and links to lists of transferable courses with dozens of independent and out-of-state colleges and universities. The Transfer Center maintains hard copies of most agreements and maintains a substantial library of university catalogs. Nearly every U.S. college catalog is available online at College Source.
Always meet with a counselor to confirm that transfer courses you plan to complete are aligned with the most up-to-date agreements.
For articulation agreements between Foothill College and any UC or CSU Campus, access ASSIST.

Western Undergraduate Exchange Program.
The Western Undergraduate Exchange is coordinated by the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE). Through WUE, students in participating Western states may enroll in participating two-year and four-year public college programs at a greatly reduced tuition level: only 150 percent of the institution's regular resident tuition. In all cases, WUE tuition is considerably less than nonresident tuition. Virtually all undergraduate fields are available to WUE students at the participating colleges and universities. Some institutions have opened their entire curriculum on a space-available or first-come, first-serve basis; others offer only designated programs. For more details and a list of participating universities, access the WICHE website at http://wue.wiche.edu/ .

* Important Note Regarding WASC Accreditation
Many WASC accredited colleges, such as Foothill, do not accept credits from U.S. colleges that are not accredited by Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) or one of the other five regional accrediting bodies (Middle States, New England, North Central, Northwest, or Southern). This is an important consideration for students who might want to transfer the credits back to Foothill or eventually transfer again to another college, or for students who may eventually attend graduate school for advanced degrees such as a master's, doctorate or professional program such as law or medicine.
