EOPS Services
Book Service
EOPS assists with the purchase of textbooks to eligible students. Textbook vouchers are awarded at the beginning of each quarter.
Financial Assistance
EOPS grants may be available based on State funding and student eligibility. Financial aid will be awarded to assist students in meeting their educational expenses through the
Financial Aid Office.
Counseling
EOPS provides professional counselors to help with academic and personal concerns. Counselors help students stay focused throughout their studies.
Peer-Advising
Fellow students reach out to EOPS/CARE students to provide encouragement and support.
Tutoring
Individualized one-on-one tutoring is provided through the EOPS Tutorial Program, which is staffed by student tutors.
Readiness Program
EOPS provides a college readiness program to introduce students to college life and the required academic skills. Counselors facilitate classes that are targeted for EOPS students during the summer session.
CARE (Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education)
EOPS offers this specific support program to assist single heads-of-households who are T.A.N.F/CalWORKS recipients. Close collaboration is established with CalWORKS to deliver services to qualified students.
Additional Services
The EOPS Department will agree to provide EOPS and Care students the support services listed below based on availability of funding, which are subject to change without notice:
- Calculators on Loan
- Cap and Gown
- Computer Laptops on Loan
- Copier - 5 documents per day for educational purposes
- Educational courses designed for EOPS/CARE students
- Field trips to regional four-year universities
- Priority registration for eligible EOPS/CARE students
- Recommendations and nomination to EOP Programs for California State Universities
- Scholarships (for transfer students and continuing students)
- Test fee for state license for EOPS/CARE students
- Tutoring
- Transfer Assistance
- Application fee waivers to UC and CSU
Fees
Financially needy students are eligible for a Board of Governors Fee Waiver (BOGW) to cover the cost of enrollment fees. Foothill College enrollment fees are subject to change without notice.
Counseling
EOPS counselors assist you with various issues relating to your academic, career and personal development. EOPS counselors understand that you may be unfamiliar with the college environment and culture; therefore we are readily available to guide you during your academic journey at Foothill College. We will assist you with the registration procedures, help you with your class selection,
devise your educational plan and acquaint you to the resources available on campus. We also understand that far too many students may fail to develop career exploration strategies to assist them in deciding on a major and/or career. We are trained to work with you to explore your interests and personality as it relates to your future career goals. We also work with you on a personal level as we know that you may encounter many life obstacles and challenges that can interfere with your pursuit of your academic goals. We also teach classes to include Introduction to College and College Success as we are firm believer that students should be given the appropriate tools and skills to enhance their college experience. We consistently use our skills, techniques, interventions, logic and intuition to help you make decisions leading to a successful college and life experiences.
Educational Plan:
What is an EOPS Educational Plan?
An educational plan is an outline of a student’s course of study, which will eventually lead to a determined academic goal.
Who does the Educational Plan?
An individualized educational plan is developed by you along with the assistance and guidance of an EOPS counselor. The plan may include the following information:
- Academic goal(s)
- A list of courses needed to reach your goal(s)
- A list of courses that you have already completed
Why is an Educational Plan important?
Once you have a clear understanding of the requirements that are necessary to fulfill your educational goal(s) then you will be able to plan accordingly during your enrollment at Foothill College.
How can an Educational Plan help you?
It will facilitate your registration process as you become aware of the required courses and any options you may have. Through carefully planning, you will be in control of the decision making process. Knowing your needs will help you in seeking out the necessary assistance you may need.
When should the Educational Plan be done?
After you are EOPS eligible, you must schedule an appointment with the EOPS counselor for assistance with your educational plan. The counseling appointment must be established at least once per term and a thorough discussion pertaining to your educational plan will be included.
EOPS Peer-Advising
The Peer Advising program in the EOPS department at Foothill College is an important entity designed to help student achieve success in their educational endeavors. Second year students, with a GPA of at least 3.0 and in excellent standing with the EOPS department will serve as peer advisors. Peer Advisors are not counselors. The role of peer advisors are to encourage and monitor EOPS/CARE students as they progress at Foothill College. It is also their responsibility to be knowledgeable about the general services provided by the EOPS department and Foothill College in order to familiarize and acquaint students to the available resources. This program clearly embraces the concept of "students reaching out to students" at work.
The purpose of the Peer Advising program is to ease the transition of first-year students from high school to college life and provide support for continuing students. It is also important that peer-advisors take an active stance to ensure that EOPS/CARE students are informed and empowered. The following goals established in the EOPS Peer Advising program are aimed to promote the academic achievement among our students:
* Help first-year students adjust to college
* Monitor student's educational progress
* Facilitate appointments for EOPS counselors
* Encourage and support students
* Ensure appropriate referrals to on-campus resources
* Simplify student's transition between each quarter

CARE Program
Mission: The CARE (Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education) Program is targeted at providing educational opportunities and enhancing personal growth to students receiving TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families) benefits. CARE students must be single head of household, a TANF recipient and meet EOPS eligibility. It is our commitment to extend support services to CARE students to help them achieve their educational goals at Foothill College. The concept of "over & above" in assisting CARE students is embraced and exercised among our dedicated staff.

EOPS Tutorial Center
As EOPS students, you have access to free tutoring in the EOPS Tutorial Center during the day. Visit the center to access assistance in a variety of subject areas.
