1. Description -
Second of seven courses paralleling content taught in courses in the Respiratory Therapy Program. Develop and strengthen concepts taught in the concurrent lecture and laboratory sessions of the respiratory therapy program. Media materials will provide an alternative learning resource for non-traditional students. Intended for students in the respiratory therapy program.
Prerequisite: Admission to the Respiratory Therapy Program.

2. Course Objectives -
Students will learn to demonstrate and describe the following skills:
  1. Oral and Nasotracheal Suctioning
  2. Nebulizer Therapy
  3. Arterial Punctures and Lines
  4. Aerosol Therapy
  5. Basic Pharmacology
  6. Infection Control/Universal Precautions
  7. Intubation
  8. Bronchial Hygiene Therapy
  9. Blood Gas Sampling
  10. Aerosol therapy
3. Special Facilities and/or Equipment -
Computers, network printer, projectors, and videotape player.

4. Course Content (Body of knowledge) -
The following modules cover theory, procedure, indications and contraindications for the following skills. Students will need to complete and pass the modules in order to show competency at this level.
  1. Oral and nasotracheal suctioning module
  2. Nebulizer therapy interactive software
  3. Arterial punctures and lines interactive software
  4. Aerosol therapy module
  5. Basic pharmacology software module
  6. Infection control/universal precautions software module
  7. Intubation software module
  8. Bronchial hygiene therapy patient cases 1-3 CPG bronchial hygiene therapy
  9. Blood gas sampling patient cases 1-3 CPG Blood gas sampling
  10. Aerosol therapy patient cases 1-3 CPG aerosol therapy
5. Repeatability - Moved to header area.

Computer administered and scored quizzes and examinations.
