Degree, Transfer and Certificate Programs (Curriculum Sheet)
Special Education (2006-2007)The Special Education Program will provide a comprehensive course of study focusing on disability and special education topics. It is designed to provide students with practical skills and knowledge that can be used in a variety of occupations involving persons with disabilities. Graduates of the program will be qualified to work as paraprofessionals in the following work settings: rehabilitation facilities, human services organizations, public and private educational institutions, community centers, retirement homes and convalescent hospitals. The program provides students the opportunity to explore careers in Special Education and other disability-related fields. Individual classes can be taken for professional growth or continuing education credits. Units required for Major: 35Units required for Certificate: 27 Associate Degree Requirements: • English proficiency: ENGL 1A, ESL 26 or equivalent. Program Type(s):• Mathematics proficiency: MATH 103/105 or equivalent. A minimum of 90 units required to include : • All General Education requirements • Core courses (27 Units) • Support courses (8 Units) • electives & other graduation requirements as appropriate. NOTE: All courses pertaining to the major must be taken for a letter grade. In addition, a GPA of 2.0 or higher is required in all Core and Support courses for the Degree or Certificates.
