Foothill College prides itself on the diversity of its students. A typical classroom may include students who've recently graduated from high school, those wishing to reinforce career skills, and those who've decided to change careers later in life. Students in the Personal Fitness Trainer Certificate Program are no different. There are students ranging in age from 17 to 62, from all walks of life, and with diverse educational backgrounds. The following profiles are intended to give you an idea of the students you'll be joining when you pursue the Personal Fitness Training Certificate at Foothill College.
Julio Aquilina, 26
Julio has been working as a personal fitness trainer at both the YMCA and 24-hour Fitness. He studied previously at Foothill College and was a standout on the track team. He returned to Foothill College to formalize his training and expand his skills. He's certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).

He's been active in Bay Area soccer, presenting youth camps and clinics throughout the year, serving thousands of young athletes. He decided to study at Foothill to gain additional exercise science training and expand his scope of experience.
Stephanie Constant, 42
Stephanie returns to school after working as a director of long-range planning in the airline industry. She already has an undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia in Applied Mathematics and Systems Engineering and a master's degree in Operations Research from Stanford University. She has three childern, a husband of 15 years, and one rather large cat. Stephanie first started training about two years ago, hoping to get in shape and lose weight. A friend suggested she compete in a triathlon and she's been hooked ever since. Stephanie has been leading workouts for a small group of women for the past year, focusing on strength training, felxibility, running, swimming, and cycling. When she learned of the Personal Fitness Trainer Certificate Program at Foothill College, she decided it was time to make a career change and pursue what she truly loves -- health & fitness!
Lorri Lee Lown, 36
Lorri describes herself as a reluctant athlete. She never participated in sports as a child. After surviving cancer in her 20s, she decided to make some changes in her life -- namely to become a fit, healthy adult. In 1999, she began training for the California AIDS Ride. She hadn't been on a bicycle in over ten years, but was determined to ride almost 600 miles from San Francisco to Los Angeles. During the ensuing months, she also began weight training, quit smoking and lost almost 40 pounds. During the following years, she realized she could combine her love of fitness with a lifetime of teaching experience (at the civic, university, and corporate levels). She has a BFA in Theatre Arts Management from Ithaca College and an MBA in Organizational Management from Syracuse University. And now she'll add a certificate in Personal Fitness Training from Foothill College to her resume!
