Personal Fitness Trainer Student Profiles

Foothill College prides itself on the diversity of its students. A typical classroom may
include students who've recently graduated from high school, those wishing to reinforce career
skills, and those who've decided to change careers later in life. Students in the Personal
Fitness Trainer Certificate Program are no different. There are students ranging in age from
17 to 62, from all walks of life, and with diverse educational backgrounds. The following profiles are
intended to give you an idea of the students you'll be joining when you pursue the Personal
Fitness Training Certificate at Foothill College.

industry. She already has an undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia in Applied
Mathematics and Systems Engineering and a master's degree in Operations Research from Stanford

Lorri Lee Lown, 36
Lorri describes herself as a reluctant athlete. She never participated in sports as a child.
After surviving cancer in her 20s, she decided to make some changes in her life -- namely to
become a fit, healthy adult. In 1999, she began training for the California AIDS Ride. She
hadn't been on a bicycle in over ten years, but was determined to ride almost 600 miles from
San Francisco to Los Angeles. During the ensuing months, she also began weight training, quit
smoking and lost almost 40 pounds. During the following years, she realized she could combine
her love of fitness with a lifetime of teaching experience (at the civic, university, and
corporate levels). She has a BFA in Theatre Arts Management from Ithaca College and an MBA in
Organizational Management from Syracuse University. And now she'll add a certificate in
Personal Fitness Training from Foothill College to her resume!
