Foothill-De Anza Community College District
Campus Abroad Program

Invites you to join us in:
Peru
Summer 2008
August 18th - September 8th

The Foothill-DeAnza Community College District invites you to join Professor Ron Herman in a photographic journey in Peru.

Come and experience the cultural and natural beauty of Peru, known throughout the world as the capital of the Inca empire. Boasting some of the most spectacular scenery in South America, Peru is home to fabled Machu Picchu, lost city of the Incas. Escaping detection by the Spanish conquerors, it is know for its sheer beauty and near inaccessibility and is one of the most important archaeological sites in the entire world. In addition to visiting these incomparable ruins, you will explore the ruins of ancient temples and fortresses, and visit picturesque villages, towns, and countryside. Our driver and AIFS guide will share Inca folklore and history as we are transported to our photogenic destinations. Sightseeing stops en route are a 'must' on this itinerary!

The trip includes a guided sightseeing tour of Cusco with entrances to the Cathedral and the Inca sun temple Koricancha; guided visit to the Inca fortress Sacsayhuaman, ruins of Qenko and Salapunco; guided visit to the Inca Museum and Baroque-Renaissance Church and Convent de la Merced; a visit to the Museo Histórico Regional y Casa Garcilaso which houses important regional archeological finds and much of Cusco’s historic art; an excursion to Pisac, known for its colorful morning market and citadel ruins; a guided city tour of Urubamba with visit to ceramic workshops and salt pans of Salinas; a full day excursion to Ollantaytambo with a guided city tour and a visit to the CATCCO Museum; a guided visit to Machu Picchu ruins and an overnight stay in Aguas Calientes; a train journey across the spectacular Peruvian landscape to the town of Puno, on the edge of the vast Lake Titicaca; a full day around Lake Titicaca including visits to the Uros Floating Islands, inhabited by the Uros Indians, a trip to Taquile Island to climb the steps from the harbor to enjoy the spectacular view; and a guided visit to the Chullpa Tombs of Sillustani, the huge white stone towers erected by the Colla tribe to bury their dead. Interspersed between these scheduled events are “free days” for you to photograph on your own and record the magical aura of Peru. Evenings will be spent discussing photography and enjoying folk music and dance shows.
