Course Description:
Application of principles and theories introduced in previously taken graphic arts courses to student-motivated projects. Projects address information gathering, idea generation, concept development, production and distribution.

About the Course
Graphic Arts Studio Projects provides opportunity for self-motivated, advanced study in the print arts and book arts.
This is a year long class that begins every July at the start of Summer session. The class meets twenty-one hours each quarter (Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring). Scheduled meetings include critiques, demonstrations, collaborative projects and field trips.

Additional studio hours are coordinated by the instructor and available to enrolled students who:
1. Attend the "Print & Book Arts Studio Monitor: Studio Safety & Emergency Procedures" training session.
2. Pass the "Studio Safety & Emergency Procedures" test.
3. Are granted approval by instructor for "Volunteer of Record” status.

Course Objectives:
Provide studio access, instruction, information, resources and support that will enable class participants to:
• set and achieve goals for their individual development as artists.
• make works of graphic art.
• share information and skills with other participants.

Expected Outcomes:
• define your own graphic arts studio project or projects.
• demonstrate an understanding of the design process: information gathering, idea generation, concept development and distribution.
• manage the pace of their projects from conception to completion.
• evaluate the quality of your work in terms of the defined objective and outcome.
• discuss the effectiveness of communication in art & design.
• produce and publish works of graphic art.
• recognize the contributions made by people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
• participate in the functions of managing and maintaining a graphic arts studio.

Goals and Participation

Individual Goals
Submit a goal statement that identifies your course of study and the projects you plan to complete.

Questions to ask yourself
How will you develop your work as an artist, designer or cultural producer?
Consider identifying:
- What interests you want to pursue and how you will pursue them?
- What skills you want to learn (or improve) and how you will apply these skills to your work?
- What projects or bodies of work do you plan to complete?
- How will you maintain a schedule to accomplish your objective?
- How you will document/disseminate/exhibit your completed work?

Evaluation
Your evaluation will be based on your defined goals and your success at meeting your defined goals.
