PRESS RELEASE:
Letterpress Class Releases Demons or Martyrs.
Saturday, March 7th will be two days after the second anniversary of the bombing of Mutanabbi Street in Baghdad. Mutanabbi Street was the gathering place for book-sellers, intellectuals, college students and a place for discussion of politics and the history in Iraq.
Graphic & Interactive Design instructor Mike Day's letterpress class will have a release party on the 7th at 12:00 of the limited edition of "Demons or Martyrs", a book of poems written by students of Saratoga High School. Copies will be distributed to class members, students, Judith Sutton (their teacher at Saratoga High School), and Beau Beausoleil, the founder of the Mutanabbi Coalition. The letterpress class started the book of 29 poems, 48 total pages, in August of 2008. They carried it all the way through from handset type, printing and hand binding; six months of learning and enthusiasm. Fifty copies were printed, 15 cloth-bound and 35 paperback. All are welcome to come join the celebration, see the books and learn more about the collaboration.
