About the District Police

Mission Statement
One of our basic goals has been to create the safest possible environment at and around the Foothill-De Anza Community College. It is through constant patrol and assistance by our sworn officers that we strive to maintain this safe and tranquil state for the college community and enhance the educational process.

Our Officers
Foothill-De Anza Community College District police officers have full police powers anywhere in the state of California. We have all undergone a series of testing and education mandated by California POST (Peace Officers Standards & Training) and we must maintain training annually to remain certified. Training includes:
  • Basic first-aid and CPR
  • Patrol techniques; defensive driving tactics
  • Interviewing skills, fingerprinting, and police photography
  • Civil disturbances and dealing with emotionally disturbed persons
  • Firearms
  • Criminal law and investigations
  • Crime scene and fraud investigations
  • Cultural diversity skills
  • Domestic violence training
  • Narcotics identification and user identification
  • DUI investigations
Additionally, our officers receive various types of in-service training related to the specific needs of the campus on an on-going basis.

We also have a one mile concurrent jurisdiction with the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Dept. for the streets and neighborhoods adjacent to the campuses, and from time to time we provide mutual aid to other agencies such as; Los Altos P.D., CHP and other agencies.

Frequently Asked Questions

"How many college police officers are there?"
There are currently seven sworn police officers, a police sergeant, an assistant director and the Chief of Police. In addition, there are currently a communiity support coordinator, police records coordinator, parking services coordinator and special events coordinator.

"When do the police work?"
There are district police on-duty 18 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays. While on patrol, they can be reached by calling the Police Dispatcher at (650) 949-7313 for urgent or business calls, or for emergency calls, at 911.

"What are the duties of a police officer?"
The Police Department is service-orientated and clearly subscribes to modern "community policing" methods. We provide crime prevention and control, traffic enforcement, supervision of the parking program, emergency first-aid treatment (including automatic early defibrillators), disaster response coordination and other related services.

We are responsible for enforcement of all state and local laws, and our ability to function as an independant law enforcement agency enables us to provide a sensitive, measured approach to all situations requiring police assistance while maintaining the autonomy of the college.

We also maintain the college's lost and found. If you are missing something, or believe that something was stolen, check with us first. We only hold on to items for 90 days. We then donate items to the Goodwill, as required by law.

The Police Department offers assistance to staff, students, and visitors in the following areas:
  • Assist motorists
  • Give safety and law enforcement presentations
  • Manage campus parking
  • Escorts to and from vehicles
  • Investigates all criminal incidents and traffic accidents on campus
  • Maintain the college's lost and found
  • Provide jump starts or loan jumper cables for dead vehicle batteries
  • Open car doors when locked out of them

Remember, when in doubt, Call us!
