Women’s History Month Lecture Series Part I: The
Struggle for Women’s Suffrage
2005
marks the 85th anniversary of the United States granting women the
right to vote; however, the struggle for women’s suffrage dates
back nearly a century earlier and had its foundations in the
abolition movement that sought freedom for the slaves in the American
South. Foothill College Associate Professor of History &
Women’s Studies Dolores M. Davison, will discuss the
humiliation and struggles experienced by the early suffragists and
the enduring strength, courage and perseverance that finally gave
them—and today’s generation—the victory to vote..

Location: Room 3402

Women’s History Month Opening Ceremony
“Song of Survival” featuring Peninsula Women’s Chorus
The
music of Song of Survival was created in a World War II prison camp.
Women sang the orchestral and piano masterpieces of great composers.
Their music became a symbol of freedom and a tool for survival. This
performance phenomenon was the creation of two women captives,
Margaret Dryburgh—a natural music genius, and Norah
Chambers—a skilled conductor. Join us for this live
performance and hear about events at Foothill to commemorate
Women’s History Month. Enjoy live entertainment, refreshments
and complimentary brownies from Luv’s Brownies’
entrepreneur and book author, Aundrea Lacy, and meet her at the book
signing. Also, Katarina Gala will explain the history and health
benefits of exotic belly dancing.
