Under the direction of Foothill College Dance Instructor Bubba Gong, the award-winning Foothill Repertory Dance Company will present One, its 15th annual spring fund-raising dance concert June 1 and 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the Smithwick Theater at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills. Concert proceeds benefit scholarships for aspiring performers.

With a cast of more than 50 performers, the show features guest choreographers Taylor Lucey, Tamara Burton, Franklin Taylor, Stanford University Mary Clifford Dance Scholarship recipient Lily Wang, and the Cuesta College Dance Company.

Gong, who was named recipient of the 2000 Bay Area Theatre Critic’s Circle Achievement in Choreography Award, will debut five new works, including Me and My Shadows, a tribute to legendary choreographer Bob Fosse and featuring numbers from Chicago, Fosse and All that Jazz; Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, a modern love story with the acclaimed musical score by Yo Yo Ma; a video and dance collage of jazz greats Jimmy Durante, Nat King Cole and Etta James; a whimsical romp of mischief in Pajama Games: Night Tales and 2001: A Dance Odyssey, a disco inferno of favorite hits. Gong and Lily Wang will present a collaboration of two ballets to Nessun Dorma and Amazing Grace.

Company choreography runs the gamut from Moby to Madonna, Bette Midler to Tito Puente. In addition to a Puccini aria, martial arts solo, concert highlights will include vocal selections from several Broadway shows, including The Little Mermaid, A Chorus Line, Beauty and the Beast and Flower Drum Song. Dancers will also explore a variety of forms, including world beat, lyrical ballet and industrial tap.

Parking lots 1, 5 and 7 provide easy access to the theater. Visitors must purchase a required campus parking permit for $2. Foothill College is located off I-280 on El Monte Road in Los Altos Hills.
