Foothill College was recently named recipient of 18 Bay Area theater awards known as the Dean Goodman Choice Awards. Throughout the 1999-2000 season, Foothill Music Theater as well as the college’s drama department were well-represented in the awards competition for productions of Merrily We Roll Along, Much Ado About Nothing and West Side Story (photo at right)- especially since the competition included productions mounted by all the major professional theaters in the Bay Area.

This year, Foothill College will stage numerous productions in its 1,000-seat Smithwick Theater and intimate Studio Theater. The 2001 season includes Into the Woods, Feb. 23-March 18; One-Act Play Festival, April 13-22; The Country Wife, May 25-June 10; and Show Boat, July 20-Aug. 12. Awards for Merrily We Roll Along include Foothill Drama Instructor Janis Bergmann, Outstanding Costuming; Patricia Haug, Outstanding Principal Performer; Mickey Killianey, Outstanding Principal Performer; and Gary Horowitz Outstanding, Principal Performer.

Much Ado About Nothing awards include Foothill Drama Instructor Gigi Steyer, Outstanding Direction; Alan Terry, Outstanding Choreography; Janis Bergmann, Outstanding Costuming; Frederick Goris, Outstanding Principal Performer; Lauren English, Outstanding Principal Performer; and Dan Roach, Outstanding Supporting Performer.

Awards for West Side Story include Foothill Music Theatre, Outstanding Total Production; Foothill Drama Instructor Jay Manley, Outstanding Direction; Foothill Dance Instructor Bubba Gong, Outstanding Choreography; Lita B. Libaek, Outstanding Musical Direction/Vocal; Catherine Snider, Outstanding Musical Direction/Instrumental; C.J. Blankenship, Outstanding Principal Performer; Lane McKenna, Outstanding Principal Performer; and Lisa Jenai Hernandez, Outstanding Principal Performer.

The awards will be presented at the Alcazar Theatre in San Francisco Feb. 5.
