Hundreds of California community college faculty from across disciplines and course levels have explored Reading Apprenticeship (RA) and become enthusiastic proponents of using the RA framework to help students not only read for comprehension, but to develop as disciplinary thinkers and problem-solvers. RA is a framework for inquiry designed to help students learn the discipline-specific habits of mind that are crucial to learning. RA helps students approach reading as problem solving, and helps instructors create scaffolds for texts that allow students to find their way "in". Bring a course syllabus and textbooks, and get ready to work with colleagues to deepen the metacognitive conversation in your classroom. Admission is free; advance registration is preferred.
