Foothill College Will Host Focus the Nation Town Hall April 18 as Part of National Green Economy Dialogue

Foothill College will host Focus the Nation: How Foothill College & Foothill-De Anza Community College District, in Partnership with the Community, Are Supporting the Emerging Green Economy & Bringing About a More Sustainable World, a half-day town hall conference Saturday, April 18, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Campus Center at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills. Admission is free and the public is invited.

Designed to facilitate the maximum opportunity for collaboration, education and sharing, Focus the Nation events bring local and state political leaders, educators, community members and students together to discuss a sustainable future and green collar jobs in the new economy; educate citizens on energy and climate issues in our community; and provide a forum for community members to become engaged with their elected leaders in working together toward solutions. Focus the Nation events will occur across the country April 18, and Foothill's Saturday town hall kicks off Earth Week activities at the college.

Hosted by Foothill College President Judy C. Miner, Ed.D., and Foothill student leaders, the event features a panel presentation by several elected officials, including, Assemblyman Ira Ruskin, Los Altos Hills Mayor Jean Mordo, Mountain View Mayor Margaret Abe-Koga. This local event provides information and a forum for community members to ask questions about green-related programs and initiatives.

"Foothill's Focus the Nation event promises to be a great opportunity for dialogue between students, the community and our local and state leadership on the vital issues surrounding sustainability, climate change and green collar jobs," Miner said.

The Foothill event schedule includes introductions from 9 to 9:15 a.m.; panel session with elected officials from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m.; keynote presentation from 10:30 to 11 a.m.; town hall forum from 11 a.m. to noon; and closing remarks from noon to 12:15 p.m.

Foothill College is located off Interstate 280 at El Monte Road. Parking Lots 1, 2, 2-A and 8 provide easy access to the Campus Center. Visitors must purchase a parking permit for $2 from dispenser in parking lot.
