Historical, Political & Spiritual Perspectives
Examine African American Literature
Celebrate African American history, culture and literature by studying the works of celebrated black authors. Enroll in the four-unit ENGL 12: African American Literature course this winter. The class fulfills the multicultural requirement for transfer and the associate degree.
This course is ideal for anyone who has an interest in African American literature and history as well as those who have always wanted to learn more about African American writers, says English Instructor Natalia Menendez who has taught the course at Foothill since 1991.
In addition to examining the literary, historical, political, cultural and spiritual dimension of literature, well also look at some of the root causes of racial tensions in American today, she says. Students will study Black English, read narratives, plays, poetry, novels and essays and listen to and perform music and spoken word.
