New Course Examines Unique Music Form
Chart the history of the Blues from its roots and influence on the American music scene to its evolution into jazz and rock, and its impact on social issues. Enroll in the four-unit MUS 7E: The History of the Blues class.
In addition to examining the basic song form of African American origin that is marked by flatted blue notes, youll study the geographical regions, and musical and social influences and styles within the Blues form in this listening-based course.
Gender Communication Class
He Said, She Said
Learn to understand the mystery of communication between men and women by enrolling in the four-and-one-half-unit SPCH 10: Gender Communication course offered this winter. The class is a study of the interactive relationships between gender and communication in contemporary American society. Youll examine multiple communication styles in interpersonal relationships, educational institutions, media and society in general, and how these styles create and perpetuate gender roles.

Composition Course Focuses on Workplace Issues
English at Work
A special section of ENGL 1A: Composition & Reading will be offered this winter. In addition to fulfilling the usual objectives of a beginning composition course, the class combines academic writing requirements with a beginning exploration of the working world.
Youll read leading business magazines as well as a variety of business books, including The Tao of Personal Leadership, The Heart Aroused: Poetry & Preservation of the Soul in Corporate America and The Fifth Discipline: The Art & Practice of the Learning Organization.
Analyze Post World War II Germany
This quarter, Foothill offers a unique interdisciplinary courseGERM 8/POLSC 8: Post World War II Germany. Students will explore the historical, political and cultural developments in Germany from 1945 to the present.
Team-taught by Foothill German Instructor Falk Cammin and Political Science Instructor Dr. Meredith Heiser, the four-unit course will also focus on the construction of a German national identity and historical memory through literature, film and historical commentary. Students will analyze the existence of the two German states and development of German unification. The class is ideal for students planning on transferring to the UC system as well as for students majoring in business and economics. Learn more.

Enroll in the one-unit CHLD 64N: Parenting class to learn effective parenting skills and child-rearing techniques for children from birth through age 8. Youll focus on self-esteem, social skills, conflict resolution, discipline and school readiness.
The class meets six Tuesdays, Jan. 24 through Feb. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Foothill College Middlefield Campus in Palo Alto.
