FMT Set to Stage Merrily We Roll Along and West Side Story
Bay Area critics are applauding the innovative productions, non-traditional casting and exciting adaptations staged by Foothill Music Theater (FMT), the professional-caliber music theater company that is lead by Foothill Drama Instructor Jay Manley, Ph.D.
In 1999, FMT captured 15 Dean Goodman Choice Awards, including top honors for outstanding production of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Manley also received awards for outstanding direction of FMTs How to Succeed and Oklahoma!
Theater reviewers arent the only ones shouting bravo. With its summer musical production of Oklahoma!, FMT broke all Foothill box office records for audience attendance. Later this year, Peninsula families can experience award-winning FMT in its productions of Merrily We Roll Along, Feb. 25 through March 19, and West Side Story, July 21 through Aug. 3.
"Were proud of these awards, especially since we compete against the major professional Bay Area theater companies. Our goal at FMT is simple: Excellence at every levelmusic, acting, dance and design. And our quality shows seem to draw the best talent from all over the greater Bay Area," Manley said.
FMT also received numerous other awards, including outstanding principal performer, outstanding supporting performer and outstanding choreography. For Oklahoma!, the organization awarded FMT two awards for outstanding principal performer, three awards for outstanding supporting performer, outstanding musical direction, outstanding choreography and outstanding costume design. In previous years, FMT received numerous Bay Area Theater Critics Circle Awards, including outstanding production for The Most Happy Fella and Assassins, 1996; and Allegro, 1998.
