Is a Dental Health Profession Right for You?

Introduction to Dental Hygiene Course Now Offered Online

Find out if a rewarding career in the dental professions is right for you by enrolling in Foothill’s DH 200L: Introduction to Dental Hygiene course which is offered online for the first time this fall. All course discussion and tests will be presented online. Mandatory lab sessions are Dec. 9 and 10 at the on-campus Dental Hygiene Clinic at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills.

The 1.5-unit course offers a basic overview of the dental hygiene curriculum, including clinical dental hygiene, infectious diseases, oral anatomical landmarks, oral examination techniques and oral hygiene instruction. Students must complete the DH 200L course before they are eligible to apply for Foothill’s popular Dental Hygiene Program.

Dental hygiene is one of the fastest growing health care careers in the country. Dental hygienists are currently in great demand and the need for these professionals is expected to increase as Americans age. For information about the Foothill Dental Hygiene Program, call (650) 949-7335. Click here to register for this online class.

Digital Designing Class Creates Virtual Reality Tour of Foothill

Virtual reality now includes a tour of Foothill. This summer, students enrolled in the PHOT 60: Photography & the New Technologies course formed a creative team to design a virtual reality tour of the Foothill campus. Demonstrating a product to potential customers via VR is one of the hottest marketing strategies in Web publishing, and has far-reaching applications for a variety of industries, including e-commerce, real estate and transportation.

Taught by Foothill Photography Instructor Ron Herman, students used digital cameras as well as video editing software applications to create a VR project that profiles the college campus.

“This project allows students to experience the newest technologies and develop the career skills they’ll need to compete for Silicon Valley jobs,” Herman says.

Access the Foothill VR tour here. Students who enroll in the class also learn the latest photographic technologies in computer-enhanced imagery, digital image-making and digital printing. The course will be offered again when Winter Quarter classes begin Jan. 8. Click here for registration instructions or call (650) 949-7325.

Guaranteed Transfer Admission Agreements & Dual Admission Partnerships

Four-year colleges and universities recognize the outstanding instruction and preparation provided to Foothill College students. Our excellence enables us to offer guaranteed Transfer Admission Agreements (TAAs) with a number of universities. So, when you choose Foothill and follow your educational plan for those first two years of general education, you pave the way to guaranteed admission at the university of your choice.

Once you complete a full year of transferable classes at Foothill, you will work with a Foothill counselor to write an official TAA. Foothill maintains TAAs with San Francisco State University, San Jose State University, College of Notre Dame, Menlo College, Mills College, Santa Clara University, UC Davis, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, UC Santa Cruz, University of the Pacific and University of San Francisco.

In addition, students can take advantage of special admission programs at UCLA and UC Berkeley.

To participate in the UCLA Transfer Admissions Program, you must enroll in the Foothill Honors Institute. To participate in the UC Berkeley Cooperative Admission Program (CAP), you must enter this program while you are still in high school. As a high school senior, you must apply to Berkeley during its fall application period. If you are not accepted as a Berkeley freshman, you may be admitted into the CAP which allows you to complete two years of general education requirements at Foothill and be guaranteed transfer to UC Berkeley as a junior.

Foothill also offers a Dual Admissions Program for students interested in transferring to UC Santa Cruz and UC Davis. Students who participate in this program receive admission to the university while they are still freshman. Students then complete lower-division requirements at Foothill and then transfer directly to UC Davis or UC Santa Cruz to complete upper-division coursework.

To participate in TAA, special admission and dual admission programs, you must first schedule a consultation with a Foothill College counselor. To schedule an appointment, call (650) 949-7423.
