MUS 58/Songwriter's Workshop

Workshop course for songwriters that focuses on contemporary songwriters such as Dave Matthews, Kurt Cobain, Sarah McGlachlan, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, John Mayer, James Taylor, etc. Each week a different songwriting technique is presented, along with student performances and songwriting assignments. In class listening and discussion of various songwriting styles along with guest speakers, songwriters and industry representatives.


MUS 59/Applied Songwriting

Writing original songs for review by industry A&R reps and publishers. Active listening and constructive critiquing of original student compositions. This course prepares the student to produce a demo recording of original material for presentation at the West Coast Songwriter's Conference at Foothill.
