The English Department
The English Department offers a variety of courses designed to improve and enhance reading, writing, communication, and critical thinking skills. Most reading and composition courses, English 100-110-1A-1B, are offered every quarter. Literature courses are usually offered once a year according to the schedule below. Before enrolling in ENGL 110 or 1A, students must take a placement test. If English is not your first language, ESL courses may be more appropriate for you. To see the ESL/English sequencing, click here. To determine which sequence is more appropriate for you, click here.
LITERATURE COURSES: Most of the English Department's literature courses are offered only once per year on a fixed quarterly schedule. Click on titles in chart below for catalog descriptions.
CERTIFICATES:
The English Department offers six certificates to students who complete three or more classes within certain areas/genres.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES FOR ENGLISH MAJORS:
English majors develop skills applicable to many career fields.

For students about to enroll or currently enrolled in English 110 or English 1A or anyone wanting help with basic writing skills.
