Welcome to the Foothill College STEM Internship Program!

This is a unique initiative that matches students majoring in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) fields with internships at local universities and private companies. This is the fifth year the internship program has helped students gain real world experience in laboratories to conduct cutting-edge research in various fields of science, as well as make connections with scientists and industry officials.


How to Apply

To apply for STEM internship, please completed the following steps:
  1. STEM Online Application Form:
    Foothill students must complete the application for STEM internship.

  2. Letter of Recommendation Form:
    The letter of recommendation is going to be completed by an individual who recommends the applicant for the STEM internship. See application packet details below.
STEM DIVERSITY SCHOLARS PROGRAM
Summer 2015 STEM Internship

The Department of Neurology at the University of California, San Francisco and Foothill College is launching the Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math (STEM) Diversity Scholars Program.

This program is a summer internship for students to engage in a 5-week mentored program focused on mastering multidisciplinary laboratory techniques, exposure to a range of STEM topics, and learning about entrepreneurship.

  • Block 1: Molecular Biology
  • Block 2: Computer Science
  • Block 3: Medical Devices
  • Block 4: Theory and Startups

This is a multidisciplinary program, recruiting from the STEM sciences, with special focus on the following majors:

  • Biomedical
  • Biological Sciences
  • Neurosciences
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Computer Sciences
  • Engineering

Priority will be given to students completing their first year with a NSF/SLI Scholarship and underrepresented students from low-income families.

Minimum requirements:

  1. Must be U.S. citizen or legal resident
  2. Cumulative 2.75 GPA or higher in STEM classes
  3. Must be a Foothill College student

Application Packet include:

  1. Please complete the STEM Online Application Form and attach the following documents when you complete the online application.
    • A current resume with all work experience, formal education and training (PDF or Word).
    • A cover letter detailing your background, qualifications, academic and career goals, and how this work experience can help you to achieve these goals (PDF or Word).
    • Unofficial transcripts for completed courses (PDF, or scanned image).
  2. Two letters of recommendation. One letter must be completed by an instructor. Faculty should use our online recommendation form.

Application, resume, cover letter & recommendations due: March 29, 2015
Notification of interview offer: April/May 2015

Internship Information

When: June 29 through July 30, 2015, Monday – Thursday: 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Where: UCSF Mission Bay Neuroscience Center
Transportation: Free transportation from and back to Foothill College (9 a.m.-4 p.m.)
Intern Funds: For the 80 hours at UCSF ($1000)
Lunch: Provided each day
Supplies: Provided, including a custom white lab coat at no charge
College Credit: ITRN 51 (2 units)
