Do I need to send original transcripts, or can I just send copies?

We do not require original transcripts. You may send unofficial transcripts or course information downloaded off of the Internet.

PLEASE NOTE: If you do decide to send original transcripts, please DO NOT fax them. They are very hard to read as a fax copy.

Must the application be in the Internship Office by the due date, or can it be postmarked by that date?

The application can be postmarked by the due date, which means that it can be stamped by the post office on that day, and still be considered on time.

If I am not currently a student, am I eligible to apply?

Yes. We have several interns using our program as a means to assist with a career change, and were not attending any community colleges or universities at the time they applied.

If I am not a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident, am I eligible to apply?

Yes.  Many internships do require citizenship or permanent residency; however, we have some internship positions that do not.

If I already have a B.A, B.S., M.A., M.S. or PhD, am I eligible to apply?

Yes. We have several interns who already have one or more degrees.

If I cannot commit to a full year for an internship, am I eligible to apply?

Yes.  You must make a 6-month OR a 12-month commitment to an internship position.  It depends upon the position you are seeking.

Do I give the Faculty Referral forms to my current instructors even though the school term isn’t over yet?

Yes, if possible. Inform your instructor to fill out the form as completely as possible. If he/she is unsure about any information, that area can be left blank.

May I give the Faculty Referral forms to instructors outside of my major?

Yes. We prefer that you try to use instructors in your major; however, you may give the forms to other instructors if you feel that they know you better and will be able to provide a more accurate referral.

If I am not currently a student, to whom do I give my Faculty Referral forms?

You should give the forms to recent employers. Because the form is designed for instructors, inform your employer that a letter of recommendation can be attached to the form and he/she does not need to actually fill out the form.

What happens after I submit my application?

  1. Your application is placed in a file with all of your other paperwork (transcripts, references, etc.) as they arrive in the office.
  2. The Internship Coordinators review each application and then schedule interviews. (If you are not selected for an interview, we will hold your application for the next hiring cycle.)
  3. You receive a letter explaining what you need to bring, and where and when you need to arrive for your interviews. Once interviews are over, it takes approximately one week to receive responses and match applicants with positions.
  4. If you are selected for an internship position, you will receive a call from your Internship Coordinator.
  5. Once you formally accept the position, we will send you information regarding orientation and how to begin your exciting internship!
  6. If you are not selected for an internship position, you will receive notification that we will hold your application for the next hiring cycle.
