Foothill College Summer Bridge Program
June 30 – August 14, 2008

Student Group imageThis program is for you if:

  • You want to attend Foothill College in Fall 2008;
  • And your TOEFL score is between 475 to 499 on the paper-based TOEFL or 151 to 172 CBT or 52 to 60 on the new generation TOEFL;
  • Or your IELTS score is between 5.0 – 5.4

Foothill College is a highly accredited institution located in the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area. Committed to academic excellence, the college normally requires a 500 TOEFL score of all international students.

Upon successful completion of the Foothill Summer Bridge Program (FSBP), students who previously scored 475-499 are guaranteed enrollment in Foothill College for Fall Quarter.

Excursions

The program also includes 2 full-day excursions. These fun and informative trips will provide students the opportunity to experience the magnificent city of San Francisco, and the scenic Carmel coastal area including the unparalleled Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Foothill College awards the Associate in Arts and the Associate in Science degree in more than 80 fields of study. Upon completion of Foothill College you'll transfer into the third year of a four-year university.

Our International Student Programs have caring staff to help you to achieve your goals and to make your experience in California as successful as possible.

Foothill is located in the heart of "Silicon Valley", midway between San Francisco and San Jose. This exciting area offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities and cultural attractions.

Whatever you like – sports, museums, outdoors, restaurants, or nightlife – they are all close to you. You can drive to the beach or the forest in only one hour, and you can get to the snow in less than a day. You have the best of all worlds right here.

Program Cost and Deposit:

Program cost is $2,500 US.
Includes: Tuition, fees, textbooks, health insurance, and excursions.
Not included: personal expenses, food or housing.

To reserve a place in FSBP, submit a non-refundable deposit of $500 immediately (the Summer Bridge Program is limited to 30 participants). The $2,000 balance is due on May 31, 2008. Make check payable to Foothill College, FSBP.

Application Procedure:

  1. Submit a completed International Application packet for Foothill College (include all required documents). You may request a paper application, or you can download an application (Foothill Application). For details about required documents, go to the Admissions Page.
  2. Complete the Summer Bridge Program application (including homestay information) and send a $500 non-refundable deposit to Foothill College Summer Bridge Program, Attn: D. Culbertson, 12345 El Monte Road, Los Altos Hills CA 94022, USA. The $500 deposit will be refunded if US Embassy denies F-1 application with written proof.
  3. Submit an official TOEFL score between 475-499 or CBT 151-172, or submit an official IELTS score of 4.5-4.9.
  4. Upon receiving your completed application documents, you will be sent an I-20, which you may use to secure an F-1 visa.
  5. Balance of $2,000 US for the course is due on May 31, 2008. Make checks payable to Foothill College, FSBP.

Foothill Students at the BeachFall Orientation and Registration

Upon successfully completing the Foothill College Summer Bridge Program (FSBP), students are eligible to begin regular credit courses at Foothill in the Fall Quarter. All international students are required to attend the mandatory Fall Quarter orientation in late August or early September, which follows the summer Bridge Program. During orientation, you will take placement tests for English as a Second Language and Math, and an academic counselor will meet with you to plan your curriculum while attending Foothill College.

Homestay Information

  • Stay with carefully screened American Host Families
  • Share in American family life
Experience an enriching cultural environment
  • Homestay includes a private room (with a shared bathroom) and 2 meals a day.
  • Home placement is strongly recommended for students that are studying abroad for the first time, and is required for students under 18 years of age.
  • Host family is paid $750 per month (with meals) or $600 per month (without meals), paid directly to host family.
  • Home placement fee is $425. Home placement fee checks are made payable to "International Student Placements". Placement fee must be received before homestay placement will be made.

Foothill Students on CampusApartment Information

Since apartments in this area are very expensive, students who choose to live in apartments usually share with others. One bedroom apartments range from $800 to $1,200 per month. A list of apartments can be provided after you arrive in the US.
