2015-2016 End-of-Year Celebration

FYE is a one-year learning community that provides first-year college students the resources and support needed to successfully transition to college — whether straight from high school or returning after a few years of working or being in the military.

Is FYE Pilot right for you?

  1. Are you a first-time college student planning to attend Foothill College?

  2. Do you identify with one or more of the following?

    • First-generation college student (You’re the first person in your family to go to college OR your parents did not graduate college in the U.S.)
    • Foster youth
    • Single parent/raised by a single parent
    • Have a disability
    • Seeking financial aid

  3. Did you place in ENGL 209 or MATH 235 during your placement tests?

If yes to all three, FYE is for YOU!

Reasons to Participate

Through FYE, you'll complete a year of classes with a cohort of students who share the same experience of entering college for the first time. Many may be the first in their families to come to college

You’ll learn many different subjects that have real-life importance as you engage in your communities, and gain valuable insights about all the ins-and-outs of how to get through college.

As a member of FYE, you will:

  • Complete college-level English (ENGL 1A) or MATH 220 and four UC/CSU transferable GE courses
  • Receive support from a dedicated team of instructors, librarians, peer mentors and counselors
  • Take field trips to four-year universities and participate in on-campus activities
  • Gain a better understanding of the degree/transfer process
  • Improve your reading, writing and math skills
  • Make friends
  • Celebrate at the end of year!

" If you are a freshman and are unsure of what classes you should take to be successful for your first year. FYE is the perfect program as everybody is committed to helping you succeed."

"The program has a set of GE’s that one could simply follow and use. You also get a variety of these classes that are very in  depth with their material taught in class which really opens your world view."

"Because it gave me a sense of community at school as well as helped me transition into college."

"It is a very good opportunity and makes college less scary because you know you are not in this alone. You have other people going through the same things you are so it makes the experiences more enjoyable."
