A need for Geospatial Techonology professionals

The US Department of Labor predicts that by 2016 the United States will need over 500,000 new professionals in the Geospatial Technology field (source: www.careervoyages.gov). Geographic Information Systems, and a strong foundation in spatial reasoning and geographic awareness are fundamental elements of the Geospatial Technology field. This project addresses the need for professionals in the Geospatial Technology field in two ways: First, it has developed a two course sequence that is articulated between a community college and four-year university that addresses the career technical needs of the GIS industry. Second, it utilizes emerging web GIS technology to bring GIS into middle and high school science classes to engage students in exploratory scientific problem solving and increase awareness of careers in the Geospatial Technology field.

The following two modules were developed as a part of the Geographic Information Science Projects (Geography 78/178) offered jointly through Foothill College and San Jose State University. View the data sources used. Note that each link below opens in a new window.
