Keep sharing – keep mailing – keep hope alive!
Foothill College • Fine Arts Division & Health Services
With Celebration and Prevention as our guiding words, we invited artist to submit mail art on the theme of “Breast Cancer Awareness: Celebration of Courage.” Our goals were both education and inspiration. We were looking for both mail art that encourages self-exams and healthful lifestyles and honors people who have faced the challenge of this disease. The response and the artwork were inspiring. Mail art is a free-floating type of creativity that both honors the creative process and challenges the ideas of what is art. Anything that can go through the mail can be entered. Ninety-two artists from eighteen countries sent information and inspiration flying around the world!Thank you to the artists. Also thank you to the volunteers who put in many hours of work and effort especially student coordinators Liz Crandall and Pati Bristow. Thanks to Naomi Kitajima of health services for her support and efforts to make this possible and to the library for giving us the space to share it with you.
Congratulation to Giuseppe Riccetti, Italy and Susan Winston, USA for their award-winning mail art. Their work was chosen for the announcement card, further spreading the news of breast cancer awareness and hope.
This show is dedicated to my many friends who live and triumph with cancer. Their spirit reminds us how important this work and how art can unite us.
