By Jean Giraudoux, Adapted by Maurice Valency
Directed by Janis Bergmann
About the play: An adventurous young girl yearns to reform the world by means of the supernatural. Most of the local townspeople are tolerant of her lively, unconventional ways, but the government inspector regards her as a threat to order and security. He summons all of the authority and power of the state to rid her of her obsession. Ultimately the adventure of love entices her to choose between the world of matter and the realm of spirit, accomplishing in a split second what law, force and logic could not.
