The Foothill Repertory Dance Company will present THIS IS LOVE on May 31 and June 1,
7 p.m. at Smithwick Theatre, Foothill College, 12345 El Monte Road.
An Opening Act will present "love notes" featuring original and experimental students' works beginning at 7 p.m. with Curtain time set for 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 Students, Seniors and Children and Adults $20. All seating is General Admission.

Bubba Gong, a Bay Area Theatre Critics', Drama-Logue and Dean Goodman honoree and Walt Disney discovery, received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Stanford University. He brings his unique show business acumen and more than a quarter century of teaching experience to Foothill to create a dynamic program which celebrates diversity: all levels and techniques, body shapes and sizes in a playground of fun and creativity. Gong who is an advocate of the arts and dance has served on Silicon Valley Arts Council Board, Peninsula Community Foundation, and Association of Asian Pacific American Artists and recently choreographed the Emmy Awards in San Francisco streamed live to 11 countries.
He will debut a new contemporary choreography to Puccini's TOSCA in honor of Dr. Judy Miner, President of Foothill College who will introduce the Opening Night Gala performance and a World premiere of "The Coronation of the Last Emperor Pu Yi." Favorite repertory numbers Gong has choreographed include a Contemporary ballet suite featuring music from the iconic artist known as PRINCE and includes favorites: Baby, I'm a Star, The Beautiful Ones , IT and Question of U. This extremely personal and autobiographical suite of dances explores Gong's early Hollywood career which led him to become a dancer and later, an educator. It speaks to the struggles of a young dancer, self-image, and the duality of the soul. Also on the bill are popular movie musicals from Show me How to Burlesque and CHICAGO to Saturday Night Fever. The audience will be able to participate in a high energy disco medley tribute "You Should be Dancin'." Be prepared to get on your feet and join the Saturday night "fever." Gong will also show a sneak peak of a new contemporary ballet from the academy award winning film Life of Pi entitled "Pi's lullabye" and a rousing Act One closer featuring his interpretation of the smash youtube hit "GANGNAM STYLE."
Resident student choreographers include: Angela Herrera's Tito Puente accompanied mambo, and Specialty act inspired by 50 Shades of Grey, David Eastman's lyrical ballet SMASH, Kento Vo's Hip Hop MIX, Tara Hart-Rodriguez's country western line dance "Crank my Tractor," Bailey Donnelly's Justin Timberlake inspired "Suit and Tie," and Miguel Ochoa's Hip Hop THRIFT SHOP and One from A CHORUS LINE. Danille Grimsby is featured in three star turns: Country Girl, a Barbara Streisand inspired vocal "Being Good isn't Good Enough, and belly dance DRAMA QUEEN. Likewise Fernando Solis has choreographed three student works featuring Britney Spears, a funk duet and a group hip hop choreography to PINK. Kevin San Juan demonstrates the newest dance craze "Whacking." Deanna Woodman chooses ballet technique to showcase her solo "Unconstrained" scored with a haunting melodic cello.
Foothill College's Dance program is distinguished by diversity in dance and excellence in inclusion and will feature soloists from different world cultures including Lizeth Cuevas in a Ballet folklorico inspired MORENA, Mony Ty in a dance from Cambodia, Tara Harte-Rodriguez in "Gypsy" showcasing Irish River dance, Joce Satterberg in Hummingbird, Jessica Angel in a contemporary solo "untitled" and Elise Dubuisson in a contemporary dance accompanied by live percussion. Melany Montano will dazzle in a TANGO: "scent of a woman; " Alan Luo dances BBoy breaks and Angela Herrera fires up the crowd as our Carnival Queen, in JUNGLE. Adrian Deeve dances a contemporary solo TRY with music by Pink and choreographs with David Eastman a world beat hip hop "MIA: Bad girls for realz."
Guest artists include alumni dancer Trey Miller, currently a student at Chapman University in an old school Hip hop solo, Keontae Johnson in Diamonds and Gold, and Start from the bottom and outreach Sequoia High School Dancers directed by Foothill Dance alumni Taylor White in SPACE dance.
Other featured works include a disco trio "HOT STUFF" featuring Chris Guevara, Lizeth Cuevas and Tara Harte-Rodriguez, Foothill Dance Alumni number "Do Your Thing," and soloist Jenn Loomis , color guard choreography with Flag about LOVE titled "I'll go anywhere."
Gong will close the 2 hour non-stop, toe-tapping, high octane production with a trilogy of hits from Jennifer Lopez culminating with the anthem: DANCE AGAIN. Technical Direction by John Celona, Assistant Direction by Tami Burton and Terin Kandarian, Lighting Design by Andrea Schwartz, Costume design by Katherine Cascante, Theatre Management by Christina Moore, and House Manager Alli McDonald with Polish Captains Sharleen Young, Angelar Herrera and Jennifer Loomis.
