Mission:
- The mission of the Krause Center for Innovation is to create a regional center in Silicon Valley to empower educators and students to dramatically improve learning outcomes through technology and the scholarship of learning.
The KCI s key goals are the following:
- Educate teachers in the uses of technology and pedagogical methods to increase student outcomes.
- Educate teachers to meet the requirements needed for California teachers certification in the area of technology and subject matter learning.
- Encourage collaboration and mentoring of teachers with their peers on "Best Practices" in lesson plan development across grade levels/curriculum areas both on-line and in-person.
- Provide access to research and development in up-to-date teaching methodology to meet the various needs and learning styles of todays students.
- Provide an open-access multi-media laboratory for students and staff of Foothill College, including K-14 educators and the Silicon Valley community, both physically and virtually.
- Provide teachers with college credit for career advancement of educators on their district salary schedules.
- House a digital art gallery where teacher and student art work will be on exhibition for the public to view.
- House a vendor display area where participating vendors could set up demonstration stations for regional K-14 teachers and students to experiment with new software and "product" technology.
The KCI's strategies to achieve these goals are to:
Establish a corporate/community/education advisory board, which identifies the future in developing technologies that might be incorporated in the classroom.
- Establish a Teaching Academy (think tank) where "Best Practices" can be shared among educators and documented and where uses of classroom technology are assessed.
- Provide courses in real time or on-line which engage teachers in the uses of technology for teaching and help integrate technical tools into the curriculum.
- Provide access to research into the latest teaching methodology to address the various needs and learning styles of todays students.
