Career Focus Speaker Series

The Career Focus speakers series, sponsored by the Foothill College Career Center, features industry professionals providing informative discussions, personal experiences, and practical advice. The Career Center focuses on helping students choose a major as well as preparing them to enter the work force. By attending Career Focus presentations, you'll gain new insight into the real world of work, learn the pros and cons about a particular career, and make educated decisions about entering a profession or obtaining further education.

Ali Firouzi earned his B.S. and Ph.D., both in Chemical Engineering, from University of Minnesota and UCSB, respectively. Most recently, he co-founded Deeya Energy, a Cleantech start-up focusing on energy storage. Prior to that, Ali held senior scientific and engineering positions at Raychem/Tyco Electronics, Arcturus Biosciences, and Cooligy. With 13 years of industrial experience, he holds numerous patents and is well published in international journals.

In this presentation, Ali will introduce the Cleantech revolution, which is destined to shape our future in ways similar to IT and communication revolutions of the past two decades. Observing through the lenses of energy security, climate change, and sustainability, this survey-type seminar will cover a range of HOT topics including renewable energy, storage, transportation, efficiency, and much more.

Lloyd Yamada graduated with a B.S and M.S. degree in electrical engineering and worked in this field for over 20 years. He passed the CFP® national board examination in 1999 and received the CFP® designation in 2002. Mr. Yamada serves as the current President of the Financial Planning Association of Silicon Valley and has been a board member for the past three years. Recently he has been selected to be on the FPA National Chapter Leadership Resource Council beginning in 2010. He will explain what is and why consider becoming a Certified Financial Planner™ Learn all about this wonderful and collegial profession, what it is, how to be a part of it and why it is one of the top careers in this new millennium.
