Travel Careers Internship Program
This program is designed to help our students get on-the-job training that will make them more efficient and valuable employees. In addition, the internship program provides a practical education that supplements and enhances classroom theory learned in our Travel Careers courses. It is a program that benefits both our students and the travel community.
Our interns are given the opportunity to work 40 hours (unpaid) in a travel company in order to earn one unit of college credit. They may also opt to work 80 hours in order to earn two units of credit. Should a company choose to pay our interns, they would then work 50 hours to earn one unit of college credit, or 100 hours for two units of credit.
In order for the student to earn college credit, learning or performance objectives and activities must be written by the student at the beginning of the quarter. The student is then evaluated by the host company at the end of the internship to see if the objectives have been met.
The Travel Careers department has established the following objectives:
The student will
- develop good customer relation and service skills.
- become familiar with travel agency office procedures.
- demonstrate good research skills.
- increase computer skills, particularly on an airline CRS.
