Head Coach Katy Ripp is in her third season at Foothill College.
Coach Ripp began the process of building a competitive program during her first season of coaching the Owls in 2004, which was the first time the school had fielded a women's volleyball team since 2001.

The 2006 squad has plenty of new faces with just three players returning from the 2005 team. Sophomore middle blocker Johna Vasquez, a six-footer out of Half Moon Bay High School, is back and hopes the Owls can finish in the Top Two of the Coast Conference North Division.

"Coach Ripp is a really good motivator, and she's also a really good player," Vasquez says. "She has international-team experience, so she knows what she's talking about."

Prior to her arrival at Foothill, Coach Ripp served as an assistant women's volleyball coach at Stanford University from July 2002 through February 2004. She went to Stanford after assisting at Santa Clara University from July 2001 through July 2002 and CSU Sonoma from March 1999 through July 2001.

Before her coaching career, Coach Ripp played professionally on the Bud Light Professional Beach Volleyball Tour from 1993 to 1997 and was named the Bud Light Surprise Player of the Year in 1993. She played in professional indoor leagues in Italy from 1996 to 1997 as well as for the National Volleyball Association's Orange County Diggers in 1996. She played in the Associated Volleyball Professional Beach Volleyball Doubles League from 1998 to 2002 and placed a career-best third at a BVA Tour event at San Diego in 2000 with partner Stephanie Cox.

Coach Ripp played collegiate volleyball at the University of the Pacific from 1989 to 1993, serving as a team captain in the 1992-1993 season. During her senior year in 1993, she earned Academic All-American honors, was named UOP's NCAA Woman Athlete of the Year and graduated cum laude with a major in sociology.

Katy and her husband Joe live in Los Gatos, Calfornia and have a three-year-old son named Jake and an 8-month-old son named Gavin. Joe Ripp runs Vision Volleyball Club, regarded as one of the top volleyball clubs in the country.
