"There was a peace, a serenity, an absence of all sense of responsibility, an absence of worry, an absence of care, grief, perplexity; and the presence of a deep content and unbroken satisfaction in that hundred million years of holiday which I look back upon with a tender longing and with a grateful desire to resume, when the opportunity comes."

Thank you for putting all of your packages in the division office! Come by and get them so you can make a festive holiday display in your office.
Please Come Get Your Student Projects, Packages, Etc.
Sindy wants you to come get all of your student projects, packages, various and sundry mailables, boxes and packages ASAP. It's true, they are piling up fast and the office is getting very cluttered. Did you know you could have your students bring them to your office during your office hour? It's true! :-) We will dispose of them over the break if you don't come get 'em, or make other arrangements.
Please Check Your Enrollment For Winter Now
Please take a moment to log into your faculty portal and check your numbers for Winter 2009 now. I have always watched pre-enrollment like a hawk every quarter for 19 years, and I can tell you:
• If you are 14-15 right now you are looking good - I will cancel low enrollment classes on December 30 so you have time to fill them up!
• Enrollment should be steady, meaning there should be regular increases. Classes that "stall out" may have reached their maximum numbers, so you should attempt to increase those numbers with emails, advertising (Craig's List, etc.), or whatever means you have in place for recruitment.
• Be aware that our students frequently do not pay their fees. They are subsequently dropped for non-payment - thus, the difference between "withdrawn" (sic) and "dropped".
• Online classes will probably increase by 20% - 60% during the first 2 weeks of the quarter. On campus classes will not add nearly as many during the late enrollment period.

The IDEA Lab was recently renovated with Measure C funds - these computers were ordered around October 1, so keep the faith! Your items will eventually arrive.
• If one of your classes is very low, and you have already made alternative plans for Winter, please let me know - I can cancel it this week and email your students so they can get into a class that will go (maybe one of your own). Hanging on for dear life with a class that's at 6 or 7 and hasn't seen a new student enroll for a week just hurts the students that are enrolled.
• Contrary to some misinformation floating around, there are no "protected" classes. We are holding the line on the 20 student minimum as a college for our own survival, it's nothing personal, believe me.
Measure C Update
Many of you are asking where your Measure C items are - be aware that the wheels of purchasing grind along slowly, but steadily. We have been getting items ordered around October 1 this past week, so if you put in requests last month, you are looking at the end of February or later.
Division Meeting January 9
Don't forget our Fine Arts Division Meeting Friday, January 9 at 11 AM! See you there.
