Hundreds Attend Campus Center Grand Opening

More than 350 students, faculty, staff and community members celebrated the grand opening of the new Campus Center in September. Participants enjoyed warm weather, good food, dance performances, photography exhibits and tours of the Campus Center and Lower Campus Complex. Curtain Goes Up on Foothill's New Lohman Theatre

Just in time for the Foothill College 50th anniversary celebration, the college inaugurated the entirely new 175-seat Lohman Theatre this winter with award-winning Foothill Music Theatre's exhilarating production of My Fair Lady.

Nestled near the entrance of the campus, the new venue will provide audiences with a theatre experience that is state of the art, vivid and intimate. The new theatre features an advanced audio system, lobby video monitors and Internet access throughout the facility. These features create a sophisticated, comfortable space for theatre patrons and performers. A large lobby area suitable for receptions doubles as a gallery space for art exhibitions. With an intelligent design that utilizes technology and maximizes space flexibility, Foothill's Lohman Theatre will be one of Silicon Valley's top venues for fine arts experiences.

The construction of the new theatre was made possible in part through the generous donation of Betty Lohman, a longtime resident of Los Altos Hills and friend of the Foothill College Theatre Arts Department. The Lower Campus Complex, including the new theatre, is built on the former site of John and Betty Lohman's residence.

Long before she passed away in 2005, Betty Lohman summarized her support for Foothill's educational mission this way: “The land under Foothill College will always be home to me. I'm so grateful that our ranch has been transformed into this amazing institution that offers quality educational opportunity for all.”

The Foothill College Theatre Arts Department will present The Adding Machine, a comic, expressionistic masterpiece written by Elmer Rice, May 30 through June 15 in the new Lohman Theatre. Evening performances are May 30, 31, June 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14 at 8 p.m. Matinees are June 8 and 15 at 2 p.m. For more information, visit the Theatre Arts Department Web site.
